The INCLUSIVE MOBILITY SUMMER SCHOOL will be held in Belgium and France where EIT Urban Mobility students and external participants will attend Ghent University (UGent) and the University of Rennes (UNIVREN) from June 23th to July 6th.
The SUMMER SCHOOL is more than just a learning experience; it’s a journey into the world of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E). With a focus on intermodal mobility, participants will delve into the challenges of inclusion, exploring ways to enhance physical accessibility, affordability, and information access.
INCLUSIVE MOBILITY
Up to now, sustainable mobility has received more attention than “inclusive mobility”. Indeed, most of today’s innovative mobility solutions tend to be used by young adults, in regions (like Ghent) where one third of the population corresponds to people with reduced mobility (PRM). Thus, it is necessary to have a deeper understanding of how to make mobility more inclusive (including for solutions such as shared mobility and tech-based transport services). Cities are increasingly focusing on making their transport system more inclusive, yet challenges remain. For example, apart from developing physical accessibility solution, two aspects that are frequently underestimated by the innovation sector are affordability and accessible information. Other challenges are produced by a knowledge gap about PRM’s demand, user experience, and attitudes towards shared mobility, especially in terms of travel frequency, duration, and mode choice. By focusing on inclusive mobility, in the Summer School we help increase awareness about these crucial aspects of urban mobility, and develop solutions that can work, for all.
OUR APPROACH
With the collaboration of the French and Belgian university, industry, non-profit and government ecosystems, participants taking part in this binational Summer School will be trained on how to add social value to their technical expertise in order to impact vulnerable people’s mobility. During these two weeks you will work in teams on concrete projects. A significant part of the programme will be dedicated to team building, enhancing entrepreneurial spirit, setting business and start-up finance basis, and pitch coaching:
- First week: From urban mobility challenges to an innovative value proposition. This first week will be devoted to immersing students in the world of pluri-disciplinarity and the issues of urban mobility and inclusiveness. Participants will learn about business cases and develop their projects from problem identification to value proposition.
- Second week: From a value proposition to an integral business proposal. This second week will be dedicated to immersing students in the challenges of developing innovative projects and entrepreneurship. Participants will shape and develop their solutions and value proposition, considering individual travelers’ and government needs, market and segment analysis, and including ethical, societal and sustainability considerations.
Their goal: INCLUSIVE MOBILITY
From 23 June – 6 July, dive into two weeks of top-notch instruction from leading academics and practitioners. The program includes lectures, seminars, and group work as well as social activities including guided tours, excursions, gatherings on selected evenings, and a final dinner with celebratory drinks each week. As a special bonus, enjoy a weekend activity exploring Saint Malo and Mont Saint-Michel en route to Rennes from Ghent.
All lecture and classroom materials are provided and upon successful completion of all activities you’ll receive a signed certificate of achievement and 3 ECTS credits (that your university might recognize towards your degree, subject to local regulations).
Apply by April 15th, 2024 to benefit from the early bird participant fee of €2500. Participant fee includes the accommodation (a shared (double occupancy) room for the six nights in Ghent, a shared room in Saint-Malo for one night and in single room for the six nights in Rennes) and meal package, so external participants will receive accommodation for all nights, breakfasts and lunches, some dinners on selected evenings, the bus trip from Belgium to France, and participation in the social activities including the bike tour in Ghent, boat tour in Rennes, and weekend in St Malo and Mont Saint-Michel. After April 15th, 2024, the fee increases to €3200.
There are limited positions for external candidates, so seize this opportunity to collaboratively design innovative solutions for inclusive, environmentally sustainable, equitable, and affordable mobility systems. Partial scholarships of €300 or €600 may be available for members of disadvantaged communities or low-income countries, subject to funding availability.
Weekend activity in Saint Malo and Mont St Michel on June 29th and 30th.
Participants will discover Saint Malo the corsair city and Mont St Michel!
